Man Of Steel Review

Man of Steel is a superhero movie that I was very much anticipating. Superman is one of the most notable characters in DC comics and for his popularity, he’s under utilized. Man of  Steel would be his second chance to leave an impression on audiences who may not have loved Superman Returns. Plus having two of my favorite creative forces in film set my expectations at an all-time high. So did Man of Steel fly as high as my expectations, or crash and burn? Find out below.

The story and feel of Man of Steel was much more Sci-Fi than its predecessors. It starts off on Krypton with us learning the story of Jor-El and the fate of Clark’s home planet. This time around they spend a lot more time there. You get to understand the culture and the relationship between Zod and Jor-El.

Once we meet Clark, It seems like he’s been globe-trotting and moving from one job to the next with no real goals. From time to time he has to use his powers but he isn’t the man of steel we all know and love yet. From there the movie is all about him growing into the character we grew up watching.

You can breath a sigh of relief because Zach Snyder didn’t let us down with this movie. It’s right up there with his other quality releases 300 and Watchmen. I loved Sucker Punch too, but I know many didn’t. He shines at the things he’s always done best. For me that is the brutal, edge-of-your-seat action and stunning visuals. All the action here is what I’ve always wanted to see from a Superman movie. It’s a bit over the top in some areas, but that’s fine with me.

As far as the actors go, this may be my favorite interpretation of Superman. Michael Shannon was intense and intimidating as Zod. Fayora was completely bad ass and I enjoyed her fights with Superman as much as Zod’s! This also may be my favorite interpretation of Lois. I also really liked the change in her and Clarks dynamic.

Hmmm..Now what did I not like about this film? I really wish they wouldn’t have done another origin film. I wanted to see maybe an experienced Superman much further along in his career. It seems like most of the superhero movies start out at the beginning of these characters’ careers, and I think its time for a change of pace on that front. Also, we had already seen Zod and there’s plenty of other villains that could be used. I’m ready to see Brainiac, Metallo, Doodsday or Darkside show up. I won’t spoil the ending for you here, but some people are pissed about it. I’m not one of them.

Overall Man of Steel had everything I was looking for in a Superman movie. This was the best superhero movie this year, so It’s highly recommended. Go check it out!
